6-Clawed Lobster, 'Lola,' Donated To Maine State Aquarium

At least one lobster has managed to stay out of hot water this summer.

Lola, a six-clawed lobster caught off the coast of Hyannis, Mass., was donated to the the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Thursday, CBS Boston reported.

The four-pound crustacean was caught by lobsterman Richard Figueiredo and Captain Peter Brown on the lobster boat The Rachel Leah, according to WMTW.

The Rachel Leah is one of five boats featured on the Discovery Series "Lobster Wars," and The Bangor Daily News points out that Lola, with "five claws in a handlike pattern on its left side and a normal claw on its right, would seem to be at an advantage if lobsters ever do go to war."

Aquarium manager Aimee Hayden-Roderiques told WMTW that "This claw deformity is a genetic mutation," Hayden-Roderiques said. "Sometimes they have this throughout their life, sometimes this happens during a regeneration from a damaged or lost claw."

Lola is still getting used to her new surroundings at the aquarium, but is expected to be on display within a few days.
