Turns out Fashion Week is a time to out-fabulous one another beyond just the latest trends. This year, viewers came for the flashbulbs and, uh, leather sweatpants -- and stayed for the charity.

Though we don't usually dole out free advertising, this company gets a fantastic Fashion Week review in our book: BCBG Max Azria, in partnership with charitable foundation Fashion Delivers, is donating almost 9,000 items to U.S. charities that empower women, a spokesperson told the Huffington Post.

BCBG sold 8,778 items in its U.S. stores from Sept. 5- Sept. 7 through its "Be Chic by Giving" shopping event, pledging to donate one piece of clothing to charity for every purchase.

That's a whole lot of studded-shoulder cocktail dresses and cross-body mini bags.

All apparel donations were made based on each specific nonprofit's needs.

The charity recipients include Women in Need in New York, Shelter Partnership in Los Angeles, Caring for Others in Atlanta, Connections in Evanston, Ill., and Women on the Rise in Montreal. Canada is releasing numbers separately.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week highlights Spring 2014 collections and runs from Sept. 5-12 in New York.
