NY Election Results: Bill De Blasio Leads In Exit Polls

Democratic candidate Bill de Blasio is leading exit polls in the New York City mayoral race, according to the AP.

De Blasio was seen as the frontrunner in the last round of polls ahead of election day.

NEW YORK — Polls have closed in New York City, and interviews with voters as they left polling places show Bill de Blasio holding a clear lead in the Democratic mayoral primary.

But it was unclear whether he would top the 40 percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff.

Actual voter returns were not yet available.

Exit polls showed Bill Thompson and Christine Quinn competing for the other spot in a possible runoff. The voter interviews were conducted by Edison Media Research for The Associated Press and other news organizations.

If no candidate receives 40 percent of the vote, the top two finishers advance to an Oct. 1 runoff.

The general election to replace Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who served 12 years, is Nov. 5.
