Ed Schultz responded on Wednesday to Richard Wolffe's report that Schultz once ranted at President Obama at a meeting.

"I don't understand it," Schultz said. "I've had several meetings with the president of the United States but they've always been of a very professional demeanor."

He continued, "I've never gone off on the president. Never ranted at him." Schultz added that one time, he told him that he needed to "get out and sell a little harder and talk about the middle class."

In his new book "The Message," Wolffe wrote that at a meeting between Obama and other journalists, Schultz "[ripped] into an impassioned plea for the president to stand up and fight." Schultz read an excerpt from the book on his radio show Monday and said, "I don't know, maybe they had thin skins over there at the White House."
