'Breaking Bad' Wins Emmy For Outstanding Drama Series

Posted: Updated:

"Breaking Bad" won the 2013 Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.

"Breaking Bad," which is currently airing its final episodes on AMC, has been nominated in the past, when eligible, in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and was nominated for 13 total Emmys this year. This is the drama's first win in this category, and creator Vince Gilligan's sixth nomination and first win for the show.

With ratings skyrocketing for "Breaking Bad's" current second half of their fifth and final season, the drama about science teacher turned meth-making kingpin Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his former student-turned-addict-turned-assistant cook Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) had the buzz to match leading into awards season.

Creator Vince Giiligan thanked "the best cast on TV, starting with Mr. Bryan Cranston," citing this Golden Age of television that he says they all feel lucky to be part of.

Anna Gunn surprised earlier in the evening, taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, while stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul both lost in their respective categories. But fear not, "Breaking Bad" fans: Thanks to the show's split final season, they'll be eligible again at next year's Emmys.

And Louis CK gave Bryan Cranston and Co. the thumbs up when they won, so ... you're welcome.
