Jane Lynch Honors Cory Monteith At 2013 Emmys

How Cory Monteith Was Honored At The Emmys

On Sunday, the Emmys honored "Glee" star Cory Monteith. His co-star Jane Lynch paid him tribute.

“Cory was a beautiful soul. He was not perfect, which many of us here tonight can relate to. His death is a tragic reminder of the rapacious, senseless destruction that is brought on by addiction," Lynch said. "Tonight we remember Cory for all he was and mourn the loss of all he could have been. To a generation that loved Cory so, please know, this gifted and wonderful young man was worthy of your love.”

Monteith died in July in Vancouver, Canada of a toxic mix of heroin and alcohol.

The tribute had caused controversy, with some arguing that Monteith didn’t have a big enough body of work to merit an individual tribute, but the producers of the Emmys defended the decision, saying Monteith was beloved by the younger generation.

Hollywood Life spoke with Lynch at a pre-Emmys event September 20th, where she said of Cory, “He was the quarterback on the show and the quarterback within the cast.”

Glee, which was nominated for four Emmys total, will air a tribute episode to Monteith on Thurs., October 10th on Fox.
