Emmy Awards Snubs And Surprises 2013: Kerry Washington, 'The Colbert Report,' Jessica Lange, '30 Rock'

The Emmy Awards held a bevy of surprises -- Jeff Daniels took home the top drama acting award! -- and a slew of snubs -- Jessica Lange! -- at the 2013 awards ceremony.

The 65th Primetime Emmys, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, saw many first-time winners and a few old favorites take home the golden statue.

Below are some of the snubs and surprises from the 2013 Emmy Awards.

SURPRISE: Tony Hale took home his first Emmy for "Veep." Hale, aka Buster Bluth from "Arrested Development," also appeared on-stage behind his co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfus as she accepted her award.

SNUB: Amy Poehler, yet again, did not take home the award for playing Leslie Knope on "Parks & Recreation." However, she did steal the show thanks to a bit she did with Tina Fey.

SNUB: Jessica Lange, looking flawless in a dress also worn by Jane Fonda on "The Newsroom," did not with the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries/Movie. The award went to Laura Linney for "The Big C: Hereafter."

SURPRISE: Merritt Wever won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and had the best acceptance speech ever.

SNUB: "30 Rock" stars (mainly Jane Krakowski) were shut out of each of their categories and the show didn't pick up a final Outstanding Comedy Series trophy. However, the show picked up an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for the series finale.

SNUB: "Louie." Louis C.K. lost out on the awards for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Writing for a Comedy Series, Directing in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series.

SURPRISE: Jeff Daniels winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for "The Newsroom." Daniels beat out favorites Bryan Cranston for "Breaking Bad," Kevin Spacey for "House of Cards" and Jon Hamm for "Mad Men."

SURPRISE: Bobby Cannavale. The "Boardwalk Empire" actor beat out "Breaking Bad" favorites Aaron Paul and Jonathan Banks and past winner "Game Of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage.

SURPRISE: "The Colbert Report" unseated "The Daily Show" and wins Outstanding Variety Series. "The Daily Show" had a 10 year streak.

SNUB: Kerry Washington for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The "Scandal" star was considered by many to have the award on lock. Had she won, Washington would've been the first African-American woman to take home the award.
