How Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Emmys Speech Came Together

Julia Louis-Dreyfus planned her Emmys acceptance speech bit the afternoon of the awards show. The "Veep" star said the idea of having her co-star Tony Hale join her on-stage came to her in the shower.

"It was like a lightning bolt, it just struck me," Louis-Dreyfus told The Wall Street Journal. "I called Tony this afternoon and he was game, all I had to do was win."

Louis-Dreyfus took home her second Emmy for playing Vice President Selina Meyer on HBO's "Veep." Hale won his first Emmy for playing Gary, the vice president's assistant. While she accepted the award, Hale stood behind her like his character and fed her info for her speech.

"Veep" co-star Anna Chlumsky also got in on the bit. "I was just trying to get a laugh," Louis-Dreyfus said.

Mission accomplished, Madam Vice President.
