Andrew Anderson, Former Goodwill Employee, Charged With Felony For Giving Customers Discounts

Florida Goodwill Employee Jailed For Giving Customer Discounts

Update (Sept. 28, 9:38 a.m.): Goodwill is no longer pursuing charges against Anderson, because it has determined that his actions were not for personal gain but rather for the benefit of others, Goodwill spokesman Carolyn Johnson told The Huffington Post. Anderson, however, will not get his job back.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Few people know that better than the Florida teenager who was thrown in jail and charged with a felony for giving discounts to customers at the local Goodwill store where he worked.

Andrew Anderson, 19, was fired from the Goodwill Retail and Donation Center in East Naples, Fla., and arrested on Tuesday after another store employee reported him to the police for giving customers discounts of up to 50 percent.

The employee, who gave police receipts and video footage showing Anderson's crimes, said Anderson had cost the store a total of $2,728.88 after giving discounts over a 12-day period in July, according to the police report.

The teen explained to local outlet NBC2 why he did what he did.

"People would come in on bicycles -- wearing all of the clothes they had, coming in with $2, $3 max," Anderson told the channel. "I'm not a bad person, what I did was with all good intentions."

Anderson was put in Collier County Jail on Tuesday, but was later released on bail. He is currently facing one felony count of grand theft, according to police.

The police report describes Anderson as "cooperative and apologetic," and notes that he admitted his crimes to officers and "wishes to repay the store."
