His cutting smile got him in trouble.
An Albuquerque, N.M., lawyer faces child abuse charges after his son told police that his father bit his cheek.
Santa Fe police questioned Geoffrey Scovil after restaurant patrons reported seeing injuries on his face and that of his 3-year-old son, according to KRQE. Scovil told officers that his boy threw a cue ball at him and hit him in the face.
Police said the boy told officers that his father bit him. Scovil was arrested on suspicion of child abuse, but did not come quietly and accrued additional charges for assaulting a police officer.
“[Officers]... wanted to know about the injuries and the man became very confrontational,” Santa Fe Police spokeswoman Celina Westervelt told the station. “The man got into a little bit of a scuffle and he refused to cooperate with the investigation.”
Scovil flashed a broad smile in his mug shot.
Strangely, this is not the first time a suspect has been arrested on suspicion of biting a child's face. Earlier in September, a Chandler, Ariz., man allegedly bit his 9-month-old baby son, claiming that the infant bit him first.
“We were just sitting there on the couch and he bit me, so I bit him back,” Justin Hornketh told 3TV. “He bit me harder so I bit him again. Then he just looked at me and stopped biting me.”
In August, an enraged Florida man allegedly bit a child on the cheek during a violent rampage after he discovered that his cell phone service was cut off.
Suspect Marcus Davis claimed the bite to the child's face had been in self-defense, according to a police report obtained by WESH.
