Fake Cops Kidnap Cleveland Woman, Steal Her Car: Police

Posted: Updated:

A Cleveland woman claims that she was kidnapped early Monday morning by crooks posing as plainclothes police officers.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told CBS affiliate WOIO that a vehicle with flashing lights pulled up behind her. Thinking it was an unmarked police car, the woman pulled over and was approached by a man who showed her a "gold detective type badge."

She said the man handcuffed her and put her in the back of her own car, then drove off as the second suspect followed in the other car. The second suspect eventually parked the other car and climbed in the back seat with the woman. The two men then interrogated the victim about a man named "Twin," who she said she did not know.

At one point, one of the men threatened the woman with a gun, telling her, "All you have to do is tell us about Twin," according to a police report obtained by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

They eventually dropped her off at her house and drove off with her car and other personal belongings, including her cell phone, according to ABC Cleveland.

Detectives are investigating the incident as a possible kidnapping, armed robbery and officer impersonation case.

Police are searching for two cars. The victim's vehicle is a light blue 2006 Cadillac DTS Ohio plate FRL4681. The suspect's vehicle is an older model Lincoln Continental four door, light beige/two toned in color, according to WOIO.

Both suspects in the case are thought to be black males. According to police, the first suspect is described as a man in his late 40s, between five feet nine inches and six feet tall, with a stocky build and short hair and a mustache. The other suspect is described as six feet three inches tall and very skinny.

Strange as it may seem, crooks impersonate police officers with some regularity.

In August, a Chicago-area woman was pulled over by a man impersonating a police officer, who she said then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint in a cornfield.

In January, a Wareham, Mass., woman was allegedly struck in the face with a flashlight by a man who pulled her over while impersonating a police officer.
