Fox News On EPA Shutdown: 'How Many People Actually Need To Come Back?' (VIDEO)

Reacting to reports that 94 percent of Environmental Protection Agency employees have been furloughed amid the federal government shutdown, Fox News' Martha MacCallum said it "raises valid questions about how many people actually need to come back."

News of the furloughs "has caused some in Washington to ask, 'Why we need the other 15,000 EPA workers at all?'" the "America's Newsroom" co-host said on Wednesday.

Those "some" include Rep. Marsh Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) who both tweeted positively about the EPA's setbacks, reported Media Matters.

Only those EPA employees tasked with protecting public health and safety or federal lands and property and those providing emergency services remain on the job. The Huffington Post's Kate Sheppard reported that clean up at 505 Superfund sites in 47 states has been suspended and EPA employees who work on laws to cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions have been furloughed.
