Colombian actress Sofía Vergara is known for her thick accent, sensual figure and fearless humor coupled with an over-the-top personality -- traits that often bring to mind Spanish star Charo.

But the 62-year-old actress, comedienne and flamenco guitarist doesn’t agree, according to the Associated Press. In fact, during an interview on the ALMA Awards’ red carpet last Friday, the iconic 1970s star expressed a graphic distaste for the comparison.

"Sofía Vergara is Charo with diarrhea," the Spanish star told the Associated Press.

At the Wednesday night Los Angeles premiere of “Machete Kills,” the Colombian star was asked how she felt about the comment.

“Of course she doesn’t like it. No one likes being compared with someone else, especially someone younger,” the 41-year-old actress told Univision with a smile before walking away.

While Vergara may not have her own trademark phrase like the Spanish star, there are many who still see the resemblance.

“Sofía created an updated version of Charo, the ‘cuchi-cuchi’ 60s and 70s sexy and ditzy Latina persona,” Felix Sanchez, chairman and co-founder of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts (NHFA) told The Huffington Post last year.

Sanchez’s response surrounded the question of whether Vergara’s Gloria Delgado character on ABC’s “Modern Family” was too stereotypical to merit an Emmy. As of this year, the Colombian star has been nominated for her role four times but has yet to take home the prize.

“While we applaud her creating a comedic brand that works for her, unfortunately Hollywood looks at Sofía and tries to find replicas of her, believing that Valkerian Latinas are authentic Latinas, not realizing that her act is a shtick and not an example of the U.S Latina actress they should be casting for dramatic television and film roles,” Sanchez continued.

Recently, Sofía defended her characteragainst criticism that Gloria perpetuated negative stereotypes of Latinas.

“Whoever said that all Latin women are the same? It’s impossible to caricature millions of women from 20 countries,” Vergara told Spanish wire agency EFE. "There are many kinds of Latinas, just like there are many types and styles of women all over the world.”
