Online Dating Gone Right: How Amy Webb Hacked The System

WATCH: How One Journalist Used An Algorithm To Find The Man Of Her Dreams

It's no secret that online dating has its pitfalls.

Sure, popular sites like Match.com, eHarmony and JDate boast success stories. And even Martha Stewart has admitted to dipping her toes into the Internet dating pool.

But online daters often complain about bizarre matches and a prevalence of people who just want to hook up. There is even a section on the U.S. Department of State's website dedicated to "Internet Dating and Romance Scams."

None of that, however, stopped award-winning journalist and digital strategist Amy Webb from attempting online dating after a bad breakup. Determined to find a successful match, Webb decided to use data points to come up with a unique algorithm that she applied to dating websites. Watch her TED Talk above to learn how she hacked the system and ended up with the man of her dreams.

This certainly isn't the first TED Talk to tackle relationships. Check out this one on the 10 things you didn't know about orgasms on HuffPost's TEDweekends section.
