More Than 8,500 Marijuana Plants Seized In San Diego County (VIDEO)

More than 8,500 marijuana plants worth an estimated $4.6 million were recently found and destroyed from three rural locations in San Diego County, Calif., Patch reports.

The San Diego Narcotics Task Force announced Friday that the seizures were made over the last couple weeks.

More than 8,000 plants were found in the Gopher Canyon area; 354 plants were found on a open-space hillside near Wildcat Canyon; and about 40 plants were found at the Santa Margarita Ecological Preserve in Fallbrook, CBS reports. A helicopter was used to remove the plants out of areas that were rugged.

The plants caused an unknown amount of environmental damage to the open space and ecological preserves. At the Gopher Canyon site, detectives also found an encampment and an illegal dumping site for trash, pesticides and chemicals, U-T San Diego reports.

No arrests were reported.
