Alabama Lesbian On Why She Prefers Country Life To The City

An Alabama-based lesbian spoke out in support of a recent study which found that gays and lesbians living in metropolitan areas may not be as happy, healthy, nor enjoying a quality of life on par with their rural counterparts.

Kyes Stevens told HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps that she'd take life on the farm with her partner and family over the big city any day, calling Alabama "a comfortable place for me."

"I did live in New York for a little while, and I have actually found it much easier to be myself here," she said. "I think that’s because I am very much associated and aligned with the natural world and tied to the land and family."

Still, Stevens acknowledged she'd encountered some hostility from other Alabama residents, something which her urban life in New York prepared her for in advance.

"People can be ugly, but I am not a petite flower," she said.
