Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar celebrated 29 years of marriage on "19 Kids and Counting." As they reflected on their life together, the couple recounted what happened when they first met. It was at Michelle's house. Jim Bob and his friend were doing church visitations, and Michelle was newly Christian. The meeting had a huge impact, but only one one of them.
“I couldn’t believe how beautiful she was, how sweet she was," Jim Bob recalled. "It was definitely love at first sight.”
Michelle's experience was a little different. "The first time Jim Bob and I met, I don’t remember meeting him," she admitted. "It wasn’t love at first sight, because I didn’t even really talk to him."
For Michelle, it didn't happen until a year later. The pair crossed paths again when she started working at a yogurt shop owned by Jim Bob's parents. Jim Bob quickly made his move, and after their first date, Michelle said she knew he was the one. Twenty-nine years and nineteen kids later, they couldn't be happier.
The couple celebrated with what Zap2It's Kiley Thompson called a "high end anniversary night." They spent their anniversary night in a $69 roadside motel room. But hey -- it had a hot tub! Plus, they also enjoyed a hot-air balloon ride.
After 29 years, Michelle had some advice for a long, successful marriage. "Pray together, be very quick to admit when you’ve made a mistake, and ask for forgiveness, because when you live with someone day in and day out, there’s always going to be those misunderstandings that come up," she told Celebrity Baby Scoop. "If you wanted to place the last two tips together, then my third tip would be to communicate on a daily basis."
As for children, the Duggars haven't given up on baby number 20, despite Michelle miscarrying a daughter, and delivering Josie prematurely back in 2009. The folks at TLC are probably poised and ready to update the show's title and graphics again as needed. For now, it's still "19 Kids & Counting," and it airs every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET.
