SAVANNAH, Ga. -- SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The parents of a Georgia teenager whose body was found inside a rolled-up wrestling mat at school say they have new reason to suspect signs of foul play were covered up by investigators.
Their 17-year-old son was buried without his internal organs.
Kendrick Johnson of Valdosta was found dead Jan. 11. Lowndes County sheriff's investigators concluded he died in a freak accident. Johnson's family believes he was killed and they want the case reopened.
Johnson's parents said Thursday they've enlisted the help of Benjamin Crump, the Florida lawyer who helped push for a prosecution in Trayvon Martin's fatal shooting.
They also revealed that when Johnson's body was exhumed over the summer for a second autopsy, the pathologist discovered his organs were missing and the body cavity was filled with newspaper.
