Kids still say the darndest things.
During a recent community appearance, the Cleveland Cavaliers' point guard was asked by a young fan if he'll be skipping town like the team's last superstar.
"Are you going to leave us like LeBron left us?"
The 21-year-old point guard, who was drafted with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft a year after James took his talents to Miami, gave the answer that everyone in Ohio was hoping to hear.
"It's a great question," Irving replied. "Um, no, I won't leave."
The Cavs have already exercised the team option in Irving's current contract for the 2013-2014 season and will presumably do the same with the team option for the 2014-2015 campaign. If a contract extension is not agreed upon, Irving would be a restricted free agent ahead of the 2015-2016 season.
