Christine O'Donnell: Poll Showing 27.5 Percent Support Is 'Great'

A new poll shows Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) crushing Republican Christine O'Donnell -- his opponent in the 2010 Delaware Senate race -- in a potential 2014 rematch, but O'Donnell believes those numbers are actually good news for her, Delaware Online reports.

The poll, conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International, gives Coons a 23-point lead over O'Donnell, who was once a tea party favorite after she beat then-Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), a more moderate candidate, in the 2010 GOP primary. Coons has 50.5 percent support, and O'Donnell has 27.5 percent.

“As an incumbent from the party occupying the White House, Coons should be much higher,” O’Donnell told Delaware Online on Saturday. “It shows vulnerability. Regarding my number, it’s a great number for me when you consider I’ve been completely off the radar taking care of my terminally ill father.”

O'Donnell said she won't make any decisions about running next year until she resolves her family issues. “It’s not a bad start, if I were to run,” she added.

O'Donnell became widely known in the 2010 race for airing a TV ad assuring voters that she was not a witch.
