David Ortiz Grand Slam Ties ALCS Game 2 In 8th Inning, Torii Hunter Flies Over Wall (VIDEO)

Big Papi To The Rescue

With the Red Sox once again struggling to generate any offense against the Detroit Tigers, David Ortiz came to the rescue. Big Papi hit a game-tying grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the ALCS to pull Boston even with Detroit, 5-5. The bases-loaded knock was just Boston's sixth hit over the first 17 innings of the series. It was also the first game-tying grand slam in postseason history to come in the eighth inning or later.

After Red Sox closer Koji Uehara held the Tigers scoreless in the top of the ninth, the Red Sox evened the series with a 6-5 walk-off win. Boston backstop Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in the winning run with a single through the drawn-in infield but there was little doubt that Ortiz was the biggest hero of the night.
