In a tragic end to a developing kidnapping story that began Thursday, police announced on Wednesday that the body of a woman found dumped in Islamabad is that of Pakistani model Fehmina Chaudhry.
Based in Singapore, the model was back in Pakistan visiting her mother and looking to buy some property in Islamabad, according to the Agence France-Presse. By Friday, the 27-year-old mother of two had stopped responding to messages. Her mother told police kidnappers soon sent her a text message asking for money, the report notes.
Local police have arrested property agent Maaz Waqar in connection with the crime. After questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the murder, according to AFP.
An investigator from the Aabpara and Bani Gala police told The Express Tribune Waqar was arrested in the same hotel where Waqar allegedly held his victim prior to murdering her in a car and dumping her body in a deserted area of Islamabad.
Chaudhry's mother told authorities the suspect had also stolen tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from her daughter before demanding about $324,000 in ransom, the outlet reports.
