Tatiana Maslany -- or was it one of her "Orphan Black" clones? -- dropped by "Parks & Recreation" on Thursday night. She played Nadia, a doctor looking to set up a vaccination clinic in one of Pawnee's parks. But before she could even get her request out, Tom was all up in her face with a weird, fake British accent.
He told April later that he panicked. Then he decided to use bureaucracy and red tape to keep Nadia around even longer, even though she seemed genuinely disturbed by everything in Pawnee. When he couldn't keep her any longer, he and April had to track her down at the hospital where she worked. Tom tried to get April to take the blame for everything, but April had a better idea.
“Tom wants me to tell you that all the screw-ups were my fault, but really he kept messing up so you would stay in Pawnee as long as possible because he is super into you," April told Nadia.
Nadia deduced that Tom wasn't British and that he was just being a weird and panicky guy. "I’m just trying to figure out if acting that insane is, like, romantic or totally scary," she said. "I’ll go with romantic. He is kinda cute." And so she asked Tom out. It's probably for the best. Tom tends to ruin things when he talks too much ... which is all the time.
TV Fanatic's Lisa Palmer was excited about the guest spot, but only a little. "I don't like when guest stars come in as romantic interests because they never stick around," she said. "I know Tom isn't going to end up with Nadia. She's got to go off and be a clone on her other series. Even though Diane (Lucy Lawless) ended up marrying Ron and she's a guest star, I still can't suspend my disbelief that Maslany will be sticking around. Especially since she's so far out of Tom's league.”
On the other hand, ScreenCrush's Britt Hayes was happy to role with it, saying that it'll be fun to see Maslany and Aziz Ansari play off each other -- even if it is just for a few episodes.
Let the playing commence on "Parks & Recreation," Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
