Dean McDermott Says He & Tori Spelling Are NOT Flat Broke, Can Afford A Vasectomy

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are having some money troubles -- problems so big they decided that McDermott getting a vasectomy just wasn't in their budget, according to People magazine.

The couple actually sat down for an interview with People to discuss their financial woes, but there might have been a misunderstanding, because McDermott is fighting back, claiming the couple is not flat broke as the article made it seem, and their finances are just fine.

And the reality star went on to take particular issue with People's claim that the couple's business manager dissuaded him from getting a vasectomy (a procedure that costs $350 to $1,000, according to Planned Parenthood)-- a detail that made it seem as though the couple were in dire straits.

"Could we afford a vasectomy? Probably. Was it a tougher time for us financially? Yeah. For sure. That's just the truth of it -- it's the nature of this business," he told the magazine. "Sometimes things are awesome, sometimes they're just not. But it's about how we tackle things as a couple, as a family. And we do a pretty good job of that. Right now we have so many cool things going on -- we're in an uptick."

In People's article, the couple revealed that they had to downsize from the 6,700-square-foot mansion they once owned in Encino, Calif., to the more "modest" home they are renting in the San Fernando Valley with their children: Liam, 6, Stella, 5, Hattie, 2, and Finn, 13 months.

If the couple aren't as broke as the article made it seem, then it's no coincidence their tales of the dwindling checkbook coincide with the release of Spelling's new book, "Spelling It Like It Is." After all, nothing gets people talking about a former teen star who comes from mega-money like rumblings that the well has finally run dry.
