A 15-year-old boy is dead after he was shot to death at a Halloween party early Sunday in the far north Chicago suburb of Zion.
Adarius Green was fatally shot just before 1 a.m. during a Halloween party that witnesses say was packed with as many as 200 guests. Aijah Bradshaw, 26, who lives in the home where the party was held, was also shot; she was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Daily Herald.
Green was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.
Police were left with more questions than answers after receiving several calls of "numerous" shots fired at the party which witnesses say was attended mostly by older teens.
The Tribune reports when law enforcement arrived on the scene, police saw people "pouring out of [the home] and were running around the street, sidewalks, and alley."
Police have no suspects in custody and say the motive for the shooting is still unclear. A witness reportedly told WGN a shoving match on the crowded dance floor escalated into a fight and, ultimately, gunshots.
Police told the Herald, "This is a very long process due to the sheer number of people who were present."
Green had only recently moved back to the area from Texas and was a sophomore at Zion-Benton Township High School, according to WGN.
"We are deeply saddened," District Superintendent Chris Clark told the Tribune. "We were just starting to get to know the young man."
