Former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential candidate criticized President Barack Obama for invoking the Bay State's health care law in support of the Affordable Care Act, warning that "a plan crafted to fit the unique circumstances of a single state should not be grafted onto the entire country."
Romney posted the statement to his Facebook page Wednesday morning:
Obama is set to speak later Wednesday from Boston's Faneuil Hall, where Romney signed the Massachusetts health care overhaul bill into law in 2006. The AP reported that Obama will point to the bipartisan support behind that law — the late Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) appeared alongside Romney when the bill was signed — as an example for the federal law. Obama is also set to point out the similarities between the two measures.
"It really does serve as the blueprint for the Affordable Care Act," Obama adviser David Simas said of the Massachusetts law.
The similarities between the Massachusetts health care law and Obamacare were frequently pointed out by Romney's opponents in the 2012 Republican primaries to question his conservative credentials.
According to the Telegraph, the former governor was not invited to Wednesday's event.
