Though the calendar says it's only November, it's beginning to feel a lot like winter in Chicago.
The Windy City was hit by an arctic blast that brought chilly temperatures and the first accumulating snow of the season to the city on Monday afternoon.
In total, 0.4 inches of snow fell Monday at O'Hare on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Temperatures plunged throughout the day. As the temperatures fell, morning rain turned into snow showers by mid-afternoon and created icy road conditions that were blamed for a number of crashes in the Chicago area on Monday, ABC Chicago reports.
Parts of Northwest Indiana saw heavier lake-effect snow beginning Monday evening and continuing into Tuesday. Porter, Jasper, and Starke counties are under a lake effect snow warning through 1 p.m. Tuesday and some parts of the area have seen 7 inches of snow or more, according to CBS Chicago.
Temperatures in Chicago remained chilly Tuesday as the day's high temperature was forecast to hit only 33 degrees, making for the city's coldest day since March ahead of a generally cold, dry week, AccuWeather reports.
The city already saw its first measurable snowfall of the season on Oct. 22.
The average date of the first one-inch plus snowfall in the city is Dec. 2, according to the National Weather Service.
