One of the most entertaining aspects of "Sleepy Hollow" is watching Ichabod Crane adapt to the modern world. This week alone, he got to experience all kinds of modern technology, including voicemail, computers and the Internet. We absolutely loved the voicemail message he left Abbie: "Dear Miss Mills, I trust this voice missive finds you well, if it finds you at all. I’m still trying to fathom the notion that my words are somehow recorded onto your smartphone.”
While working on the computer, he was struggling to keep the window he wanted open, thus leading to him printing the document they were looking at five times, "In case the picture vanishes from the screen [again].” One thing he was absolutely not prepared for was a "sexy" pop-up ad of a woman in lingerie wanting to video chat.
"That is wildly inappropriate," he said to the computer. When the woman asked if he wanted to chat, he told her, "I’m afraid I am a spouse to another.” He then closed the laptop to try and make her go away, but when he opened it back up, she was still there. And with that, Ichabod decided he didn't like the Internet at all.
According to HitFix's Geoff Berkshire, these are the kinds of moments that have made "Sleepy Hollow" the breakout show of the fall. "Not because audiences have been clamoring for a nutty serialized drama that balances elements of a horror show, historical romp and bantery detective drama, but because audiences have been starved for anything that feels different and fresh," he wrote. IGN agreed, adding that anyone who's not watching the show should be -- at the very least so we can all start leaving polite voicemails like Crane.
