When you imagine an excursion to New Zealand, you probably think gorgeous blue water, lush vineyards, exciting outdoor adventure, and, of course, Middle-Earth.

But New Zealand has a rich history, and these panoramic photos from the early 20th century are the perfect way to explore what it would have been like to visit New Zealand way back when.

Nowadays, anyone with an iPhone can take a panoramic shot. But these photos, taken in the 1920s, are rare gems.
