'The Sound Of Music' On NBC Is Not Trying To Be The Movie

11/20/2013 11:49 am ET

Let's be clear: "The Sound of Music" on NBC is not trying to remake the classic movie.

"This is a televised version of the stage production," Laura Benanti says in the video above. "We're not trying to remake the movie. Nobody can remake the movie."

The cast for NBC's "The Sound of Music" features Carrie Underwood, Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Benanti.

"Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it. I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me," "Sound of Music" movie star Julie Andrews told Zap2It. "I think it's great that it's being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting ... I do hope it works for Carrie, because she's lovely and I'm a fan. I wish her well."

NBC will broadcast the production live from a hangar in Queens, New York on one night, Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. EST.
