Was Driver '2 Drunk 2 Care' Before Accident That Killed 2 Women?

Early on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 17, Marisa Catronio and Kaitlyn Ferrante were driving down Florida's Sawgrass Expressway when a driver headed the wrong direction hit them head-on.

Ferrante, 21, was rushed from the wreckage of her Toyota Camry to intensive care, where she died Thursday morning after spending several days on life support. According to CBS Miami, Catronio, Ferrante's passenger and close friend, was killed instantly.

Kayla Mendoza, the driver of the other vehicle, also ended up in the hospital.

Officers have yet to release the findings of a toxicology report from the accident, but the Miami New Times has tracked down a Twitter account it reports belongs to 20-year-old Mendoza. The last tweet posted to the account reads:

A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol told The Huffington Post officials were aware of the Twitter account and were looking into it. No charges have been filed in the accident.

Catronio's father, Gary, told the Sun Sentinel he grew concerned Sunday after his daughter didn't check in before her 2 a.m. curfew. Using a cell phone app, he saw his daughter's location -- an unmoving spot on the expressway -- and drove to the scene, only to find police and heartbreak.

"My little girl is not here any more because of the negligence of a driver driving on the wrong side of the highway," the father told NBC Miami in an emotional interview. "Please hug your kids tonight because I can't hug my daughter anymore."

UPDATE, 11/26: Mendoza's family members told Broward/Palm Beach New Times that her entire Twitter account was hacked, and most if not all of Mendoza's more than 5,000 tweets -- some of which include photos of Mendoza and her family -- have been planted. "We can't say who is hacking her account, but if I knew her password I would shut it down," said her cousin, Luis Massey. Read the whole story at Broward/Palm Beach New Times.
