Babyface Says Toni Braxton Almost Left Music (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds is an R&B powerhouse with more than 500 songs and 10 Grammy Awards to his name. When he collaborated with Toni Braxton on her self-titled debut album in 1993, it went on to sell more than 10 million copies and win three Grammy Awards. After an eight-year break, Babyface and Braxton are teaming up again with their first full duet album, "Love, Marriage and Divorce," which will be available on February 4.

In the above clip from Sunday's episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter," Babyface explains why he and Braxton added the word "Divorce" to their album title. Babyface went through a public divorce in 2007 and Braxton recently ended her 12 year marriage in July 2013.

"It was important, I think, for Toni to actually do this album because she was actually at a point where she was really not wanting to do it anymore," Babyface says.

"Why?" Oprah asks.

"All that was going on in her life with the divorce, all the other issues that she has," Babyface says. "And then you go out on the road, and she just was at a point where she wasn't loving it anymore. And she was just kind of phoning in."

"And then she didn't know about doing the record. She didn't know what she should say, she didn't know if she had anything to say. She didn't know if anybody cared if she had something to say. And so there's a question with artists: Am I relevant?"

Babyface explains how Braxton reconciled those questions on this Sunday's episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter," airing at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
