John Kerry Heading To Geneva To Join Negotiations About Iran's Nuclear Program

By DEB REICHMANN, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry is heading to Geneva to join negotiations about Iran's nuclear program, raising expectations that a deal could be in the works.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki says Kerry will leave Friday afternoon for the talks between Iran and six world powers, including the United States.

The parties are negotiating a deal aimed at beginning a rollback of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for easing U.S. and international sanctions that block Iran from global banking systems and hamper its economy.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently arrived in Geneva as diplomats struggle to find language acceptable to Iran and its six negotiating partners.
