Debby Ryan Talks Being Bullied, Her Upcoming Album And Not Making Music For Disney Fans (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Even though she has a massive Twitter following and a hit show on The Disney Channel, Debby Ryan is really just your average girl making adorable homemade YouTube videos and hanging out with her family.

Given her success today as an actress-singer-songwriter, you might be surprised to learn that it wasn't always smooth sailing for the "Jessie" star. But just like any other teen growing up, Debby experienced her fair share of struggles, which she shared on a recent visit to HuffPost Live.

"They [bullies] can trip me and physically cause me to fall, but they can't control what I do once I'm down there and how I pick up my things and carry on," said Debby, recalling how a fellow student once tripped her at school, causing her to drop her belongings. "And that's something that my mom told me over and over: 'Don't let them see you sweat. Don't let them see you sweat.' And I didn't."

Listen to Debby's story in the video above.

Debby also talked about her upcoming album, which is set to debut next year. But her music, which she is writing and producing herself, may be a different side of her from what "Jessie" fans are used to seeing -- and hearing.

"I want people to know that I won't just assume that people will like my music," said Debby. "I'm not making music for people who like Disney shows. I make music for people who like music." Watch in the video below.

"This album is kind of a different release for me and that's what I'm trying to prove with the YouTube covers," she explained.
