You probably wouldn't be surprised to hear that Harvard University has more Nobel Prize winners than any other American higher education institution.

But you may not have guessed that Yale University has fewer winners than the University of Chicago. Or that New York University has more Nobel laureates than their upstate neighbor Cornell University. Another Ivy League institution, Princeton, only ties with the City University of New York City College with four Nobel winners each.

To come up with their totals, FindTheBest said they only count a winner from the undergraduate institution the person graduated from. As they explain it, Columbia would get a point for President Barack Obama's Nobel Prize, but Occidental College would not since he transferred away from the school before obtaining a degree.

The reason FindTheBest does this is because Nobel Prize winners factor into their undergraduate college rankings, and representatives say they don't want to "double count for these purposes."
