NEW YORK (AP) — Prosecutors say the teenager accused in a New York City shooting that caused chaos and bloodshed at a midtown Manhattan skating rink gave an incriminating statement saying he was sorry for hurting a bystander.

The handwritten statement was turned over to the defense Tuesday at the arraignment of 16-year-old Cory Dunton. He pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, assault and other charges.

Authorities have accused Dunton of opening fire at the popular Bryant Park rink last month while trying to steal an expensive parka.

The coat's owner was hit in the leg. A 14-year-old bystander also was struck and seriously injured.
