This Little Girl Saw Her Classmate Choking, And Knew Exactly What To Do

When Emily Ogle saw her classmate choking, she knew exactly what to do.

The nine-year-old from Roxana, Ill., was eating lunch in the cafeteria on Monday when she realized Kuper Stevens was choking on a cheese-filled breadstick, KSDK reported. So Emily immediately went over to him and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

"On the fifth try, the breadstick dropped out of his mouth and onto the table," Jim Miller, Central Elementary School's principal, told WBGZ radio. "She saved his life."

Emily's father taught her how to perform the maneuver when she was seven years old, according to Miller.

"She not only remembered what to do but how to do it correctly," Nicole Ogle, Emily's mom, told KSDK. "We were so proud."

And to thank his hero, Kuper got Emily a necklace with her name on it and four king-size candy bars -- a fourth-grader's dream!
