Well, this sounds terrifying: the John Hancock Center, the fourth-tallest Chicago skyscraper and seventh-tallest tower nationwide, is reportedly eyeing building its own "Ledge"-esque balcony called the "Tilt."
The owners of the Hancock's 94th floor observatory are planing to create a glass box that protrudes from the side of the building and tilts downward after visitors are secured inside, Crain's Chicago Business reports.
Any specific plans for the rumored "Tilt" have not yet been made public, but it is anticipated that such an attraction would bring in a significant increase in revenue for the Hancock Observatory, which has seen stagnating visits in recent years while visits to the Willis Tower and its popular "Ledge" attraction have surged, Crain's notes.
According to the Skydeck, the Willis Tower's "Ledge" boxes, which extend about four feet from the tower, have attracted approximately 1.3 million visitors each year since it opened in the summer of 2009.
It really hasn't been the best year for the Willis Tower, has it?
