New Jersey Waitress In Anti-Gay Receipt Saga Reportedly Let Go From Job

Posted: Updated:

The lesbian waitress involved in an anti-gay receipt saga has been let go from her job at a New Jersey restaurant.

Dayna Morales, a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J,, is out of her job following allegations that the purportedly homophobic note she received from a family criticizing her "lifestyle" and denying her a tip was nothing but a hoax. The restaurant announced in a Facebook post Saturday (Dec. 7) that Morales is no longer employed at the establishment.

The Gallop Asian Bistro has taken seriously the allegations made by Ms. Dayna Morales, and those made against her. Despite news reports to the contrary, this is not a simple, straight-forward matter and we have conducted our own internal investigation. The results of that investigation are inconclusive as to exactly what happened between Ms. Morales and the customers that night. However, in light of the investigation and recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant. We wish her well in the future.

The post called the incident "unfortunate."

Morales' story went viral after she posted the supposed receipt to Facebook last month. The family who reportedly left the note later reached out to the media to counter Morales' claims. The family denied writing anything about the server's "lifestyle" and said they left her a 20 percent tip. They provided a credit card statement as proof, WNBC previously reported.

The loss of her job comes after Gallop Asian Bistro suspended Morales and launched an investigation into the matter following news that the receipt was reportedly forged.

Former coworkers of Morales have spoken out saying Morales has a history of lying. At one point, she reportedly lied about having terminal cancer.

The 22-year-old Marine, who was reportedly dishonorably discharged from the military, received monetary donations from around the world after her story went viral. She said she planned to donate the thousands of dollars to the Wounded Warrior Project, but Bridgewater Patch reported no money had been given to the nonprofit as of last week.

At least three individuals who donated to a PayPal account set up in Morales' name said they received refunds last week, according to WNBC.

The general manager of Gallop Asian Bistro, Byron Lapola, told CNN the money that came in to the restaurant for Morales will still be donated.
