Fans were left with a big tease about a season-long mystery on the fall finale of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Since the premiere, Agent Coulson has been trying to figure out his own resurrection from the death he suffered in the "Avengers" film. Apparently, he isn't the only one extremely interested.
Centipede orchestrated a complex scheme with the returning Mike Peterson to get their hands on Coulson. At the end of the episode, Raina had secured Coulson in a helicopter, leaving his team to deal with a couple of massive explosions on the bridge. “Whatever this is, whatever you think you’re doing, it won’t work. I won’t give you what you want," Coulson told her.
“You will," Raina said calmly. "And what we want is simple: we want you to tell us about the day after you died.” Bad news for Raina, because all Coulson knows is that Tahiti is "a magical place."
Zap2It's Terri Schwartz was happy to see this development, because "that means Coulson's death is going to be finally, finally dealt with after "Agents of SHIELD" returns on Jan. 7. There are plenty of theories for why Centipede is so interested in Coulson, but it seems likely that the ‘Clairvoyant’ -- whoever he or she is -- is curious about what brought Coulson back.”
However, TV Fanatic's Jim Garner doesn't have high hopes for the reveal. "With how long they have dragged out his death in New York, it will be next to impossible for the answer of how he is here to live up to the expectation that has been built up," he wrote. "It will either be underwhelming, (i.e. he’s a clone). Or, it will be so big, it will be unbelievable, (i.e. resurrected by aliens from Mars riding Unicorns).”
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns January 7 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
