Meet Whipsnade Zoo's New Baby Giraffe, It's A Girl! (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

This little female calf was born on November 13 at the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo to parents Savannah and Uno. Mom, Savannah, was born in the zoo in 2001 and is taking to motherhood with grace. Baby and mom are spending one-on-one time together to develop a strong bond, but soon the calf will be introduced to other members of the group.

Giraffe keeper, Cassie Taylor, describes the new baby girl as a fantastic, bright, alert giraffe with "a bit of a character." The calf was standing and suckling milk from her mother within the first hour of her birth. On average, a newborn giraffe will weigh in at 220 pounds, and stand at six and a half feet tall, according to Giraffe Conservation Fund.

The Zoological Society of London works to conserve animals through breeding programs, fundraising, direct conservation action and scientific research.

The calf will be named by Whipsnade Zoo visitors, but you can suggest a name here.
