It may be no accident that fans see and hear far less about Derek Jeter's personal life than some of his superstar peers. While other athletes are oversharing on Twitter, posting honeymoon photos on Instagram or otherwise landing themselves in the tabloids, the captain of the New York Yankees manages to keep his private life actually private.
It apparently takes some rules to keep things this way.
Citing an unnamed inside source, the New York Post's "Page Six" reported on Monday that Jeter has a no cameras policy at his home in Florida that has guests leaving their phones at the door.
“He points and says, ‘Phones go there,’ so no one can take pictures inside his house,” the unnamed source told the Post.
Given the attention that an unflattering candid photo of Jeter appearing to have put on a few pounds while recovering from an injury garnered in November 2012, it may not be surprising that he is leery of unauthorized photographs.
Despite dating high-profile stars like Minka Kelly and Mariah Carey during his career with the Yankees, Jeter has largely managed to avoid scandal and stay out of the gossip pages, especially compared with teammate Alex Rodriguez. Perhaps the most tabloid-friendly story to emerge about Jeter was the 2011 report, again in the New York Post, that he gave gift baskets to women who spent the night at his Trump World Tower apartment.
On a possibly related note, there were no photographs of the gift baskets actually in his apartment.
