Man Charged For Dangling Dog From Balcony

Residents of Greenville, S.C., were mortified last weekend to see a dog dangling from an apartment balcony, suspended by a tether attached to its neck.

A photo of the animal attracted significant attention on social media. ABC News reports that police were soon "inundated" with inquiries from concerned citizens.

Greenville Police Public Information Officer Johnathan Bragg told ABC the man had been lowering the dog from his balcony so it could relieve itself.

“Saturday it was raining really hard during that time period and we believe he was doing it to let it use the bathroom,” said Bragg.

According to Greenville Online, the 23-year-old man responsible for the dog was looking after it for his father. He has been fined $1,093 for violating the city's animal care law and faces up to 30 days in jail.
