Lions Sign Carlin Isles, 'Fastest Man In Rugby', To Practice Squad

Lions Bring In 'Fastest Man In Rugby'

The "fastest man in rugby" may be coming to the NFL. The Detroit Lions signed 24-year-old American rugby player Carlin Isles to the practice squad. He took part in a workout on Thursday morning.

"I mean, you're looking for athletes," head coach Jim Schwartz said this week, per MLive.com. "It hasn't been unusual to see basketball guys to the NFL. That's not just recently. That goes way back, even track guys like Bob Hayes and Renaldo Nehemiah. An athlete is an athlete. There are skills you can develop. If you see something you like, you can work with him."

The Lions aren't the first team this season to take a chance on a rugby player. The Indianapolis Colts promoted Kenyan rugby player Daniel Adongo to their 53-man roster earlier in December.
