Franklin Graham opened up about the legacy of his father, Billy Graham, to NBC's Harry Smith on Sunday's broadcast of "Meet The Press," where he commented on one of Pope Francis' most talked-about statements.

Smith said, "He was asked about gays in the church, and he said, 'Who am I to judge?' Would there ever be a shift for you on that issue?"

Graham replied, "God would have to shift and God doesn’t. God’s word is the same, yesterday and today and a million years from now. This is sin. But to wink at sin, and to tell somebody it is OK, when I know the consequences of what will happen one day when they have to stand before God-- I want to warn people."

“I think the pope is right when he says he’s not the judge,” he continued. “He’s not the judge. God is the judge.”

Though the pope's statement was applauded by many as representative of a shift in tone and attitude for the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has not made any moves to change church doctrine with regards to homosexuality. Indeed, he was reportedly "shocked" by a bill in Malta that would make it legal for gay couples to adopt children.
