While Major League Baseball hibernates, the Australian Baseball League is heating up. Perhaps more than it should.

A bench-clearing brawl erupted between the Brisbane Bandits and the Sydney Blue Sox on Saturday. Bandit baserunner Patrick Leonard knocked over Blue Sox catcher Daniel Arribas as he tried to catch the ball at home plate, the video above shows. Arribas verbally expressed his displeasure but it was Bandits outfielder Josh Roberts who got physical. He emerged from the bench to strike Arribas in the face, touching off a spirited exchange of hostilities between the teams.

Roberts received a six-game suspension, the longest in Australian Baseball League history, according to the Blue Sox website.
