Yes, a lot of people are excited about Colorado's new legal recreational marijuana laws. But don't count the Wyoming Highway Patrol among them.
On Thursday, the state highway patrol posted this very clear message to their Facebook page:
The state highway patrol says it has "no plans to increase patrols on highways near the state line to look for those transporting marijuana into the state from Colorado," but that the "bottom line" is that "any amount of marijuana in either dried or in plant form in the State of Wyoming is illegal to possess."
Albany County Sheriff Dave O'Malley told the Laramie Boomerang that his office expects to see more drivers under the influence of marijuana as well as drivers carrying pot out of Colorado into Wyoming.
“We saw an impact just after the medical-marijuana legalization in Colorado in the number of stoned drivers on (Wyoming) Highway 287,” O’Malley said to the newspaper. “We had more people in possession as well as people using while they’re driving. So we’ve had an upswing in that regard.”
Under Colorado's marijuana law, it's illegal to transport marijuana outside of state lines and drive while under the influence.
