Kings of Leon is famously picky with what films and television shows feature the group's songs. That's part of the reason why it's so surprising to find Kings of Leon -- comprised of brothers Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill, Jared Followill, plus their cousin, Matthew Followill -- on the soundtrack for "August: Osage County."

"We've been offered movies that they've spent $300 million to make. We've said no to it, just because we had no connection to the movie," Jared Followill said in a new feature on the making of the original song, "Last Mile Home," that the band wrote for "August: Osage County." "We had a really strong connection to this one."

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts (who also wrote the film's script), "August: Osage County" stars Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Margot Martindale, Chris Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Julianne Nicholson, Ewan McGregor, Dermot Mulroney, Abigail Breslin and Sam Shepard. The film was recently honored by the Italy-based Capri, Hollywood - International Film Festival with four awards, including Film of the Year and Best Ensemble. Stateside, "August: Osage County" scored an Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture nomination from the Screen Actors Guild and an adapted screenplay nod from the Writers Guild.

"August: Osage County" is out in limited release now, with a nationwide bow to follow on Jan. 10.
