After the Iowa Hawkeyes saw their double-digit halftime lead against Wisconsin dwindle down to two on Sunday night, their coach Fran McCaffery lost his composure and got himself ejected.

During a TV timeout with 11:51 left in regulation, McCaffery threw a tantrum directed at the officials. After receiving a technical foul, McCaffery continued his tirade and appeared to make contact with one of the referees. Another technical foul was called on the coach and he was immediately ejected.

Down by two at the time of McCaffery's ejection, Wisconsin made four free throws due to the two technical fouls and took the lead. The Badgers never looked back and won, 75-71.

On Monday, McCaffery and Iowa Director of Athletics Gary Barta released a joint statement on the ejection.

“I want to apologize for my emotional reaction during Sunday night’s game at Wisconsin," McCaffery said, per BTN.com. "I have great passion and respect for the game of basketball and everyone involved in it. I regret that my actions put our program and the University of Iowa in a negative light. I look forward to working with my staff and my players to move forward and compete for a championship."

UPDATE The Big Ten Conference announced on Tuesday that McCaffery will be suspended for one game.
