"Pretty Little Liars" is not for the weak. Nor is it for those who refuse to follow complex murder and kidnapping mysteries about teenage girls.
The ABC Family show returns for Season 4B on Tuesday (Jan. 7). For some fans, it may seem like a lifetime has passed since the Liars' Halloween episode, which doubled as a pilot for spinoff show "Ravenswood."
"PLL" may be intended for teenage girls, but it's also one of the only shows on TV where an intricate mid-season recap is necessary in order to follow along with new episodes. Let's catch up with "Pretty Little Liars" Season 4 and take a look at where we left off.
SPOILER ALERT: If you have not seen the most recent episodes of "Pretty Little Liars," you may want to stop reading.
We know who A is ... for real.
During the summer mid-season finale, the show revealed to its audience that -- GASP! -- Ezra is A. Sure, this could be a fake out like when Toby was revealed as A, but in an interview with TVLine, executive producer Oliver Goldstick said, "I assure you that there is something going on here with Ezra. It plays out quite beautifully in Season 4B. And Aria’s in danger -- well, they all are, but Aria in particular."
Alison is alive.
Yes, she's 100 percent alive. We saw her in the Halloween special and Mrs. Grunwald confirmed that she helped Alison climb out of a grave.
We still have no idea who killed Garrett Reynolds.
Everyone assumes A killed him back in Season 3, but it was never confirmed. Poor Garrett.
We've always known that Hanna's mom, Ashley, didn't kill the corrupt police officer. In episode 11, "Bring Down The Hoe," we met Travis, the kind of creepy guy who left thousands of dollars in an envelope in Hanna's locker. He knew Ashley didn't kill Wilden, and Hanna convinced him to go to the police to exonerate her mother. Now, everyone thinks CeCe killed Wilden. The newspapers even plastered her photo everywhere as the suspect. But, it's "Pretty Little Liars," so we don't really know.
Nobody knows who crashed a car into Emily's house.
That's right. Remember when someone crashed a car into Emily's living room? Obviously, this could be A's doing, but it's a car. In someone's house. The Rosewood police department dropped the ball on this one.
Wren is probably not A, even though he's been creepy all season.
Once the Liars find A's lair, they realize A has been watching Wren, meaning he can't be A. In Episode 12, Shana was shown inside his deserted house, hiding from Spencer. In the same episode, Shana reveals that Wren and Melissa are moving in together. We have no idea why Shana and Wren are in cahoots.
Something happened to Toby's mom.
History says his mother committed suicide, but A gave Toby information indicating she might have been murdered while in Radley. Her old doctor's memory is spotty and there's no way to tell what happened to her ... yet.
Alex Mack Maggie lied about Ezra being the father of her child, Malcolm.
ROUGH. This is not a good time for Ezra.
Alison's parents are getting divorced.
Their relationship has very little to do with the overall plot, but now that we know Alison's alive, maybe it will become more significant.
Ravenswood is creepy and Caleb is staying there
Sigh. Goodbye to Haleb/ Canna. Caleb is staying put in Ravenswood.
CeCe is alive, well and on the A-Team
After she fell in the sawmill, we assumed CeCe was dead ... for about 10 seconds. She disappeared shortly after, wearing her red coat.
Jake loves Aria. Aria kind of likes Jake.
Poor Jake. The martial arts star has no idea that he's still going to compete with Ezra for Aria's affection. Poor Aria, who has no idea Ezra has been tormenting her. This will not play out well.
"Pretty Little Liars" Season 4B Returns to ABC Family on Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. EST.
